Cable Street and the changing face of antisemitism in the UK

Helping schools to mark the 90th anniversary of the Battle of Cable Street

October 2026 will mark the 90th anniversary of the Battle of Cable Street. In recognition of this milestone, we are fundraising to support the development of new lesson plans for secondary schools on Cable Street and the changing face of antisemitism in the UK.

Our Approach

At Learn About Britain we don't shy away from the challenges the UK faces - we confront them. While antisemitism has changed over the last 90 years, it hasn't gone away. The lesson plans we develop will look at antisemitism then and now, and, in line with our commitment to turning learning into action, encourage students to reflect on their roles in countering it.

Our Ask

We want to commission historians to develop high-quality resources on Cable Street and the changing face of antisemitism, share them with schools and run a competition for students to demonstrate their learning The total cost of the project will be £11,000 - we have already raised half of the funds (including through a grant from the Association of Jewish Refugees) but we still need to raise £5,500 to make the project a reality. If you could help, please get in touch at joe@learnaboutbritain.uk or via the form below.

This story of Jews and non-Jews uniting to defend the East End against the march of the fascist Blackshirts is clearly timely and highly resonant today... this will undoubtedly be a valuable resource for schools
