We were delighted to hear that at last week's meeting of the Prince Phillip Trust Fund, chaired by His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh, funding was agreed to enable us to work with refugees and asylum seekers in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. This generous grant will allow us to introduce newly-arrived refugees and asylum seekers to the national history of the UK, the local history of Windsor and Maidenhead, everyday British culture and customs and the community life of the area. Our founder Joe Hayman said:
"We are very grateful to the Prince Phillip Trust Fund for their support to bring our educational programme for refugees and asylum seekers to Windsor and Maidenhead. We believe that through this funding we can increase participants' knowledge of British history, culture and customs, reduce their feelings of isolation, increase their confidence in navigating local environments and build their understanding of local history, culture and community life."

October 2026 will mark the the 90th anniversary of the Battle of Cable Street. In recognition of this important milestone, Learn About Britain has launched a fundraising appeal to support the development of a set of lesson plans for secondary schools on the events at Cable Street and the changing face of antisemitism in the UK. Founder of Learn About Britain, Joe Hayman, said:
"At Learn About Britain we don't shy away from the challenges the UK faces - we confront them. We want to commission historians to develop high-quality resources on Cable Street and the changing face of antisemitism in the UK, share them with schools and run a competition for students to demonstrate what they have learned and the action they have taken as a result. The total cost of developing the lessons will be £11,000 - a generous donor has already committed half of the project funds but we still need to raise £5,500 to make the project a reality. If you could help, please get in touch."

We were saddened to learn of the passing this week of Richard Harries, Baron Harries of Pentregarth. Richard was a great friend of Learn About Britain and sponsored our 2025 reception in the House of Lords.
Founder Joe Hayman said:
"Richard Harries was a lovely man who touched the lives of everyone he met - including my own. He will be greatly missed."
