The Battle of Cable Street, 90 years on

October 2026 will mark the the 90th anniversary of the Battle of Cable Street. In recognition of this important milestone, Learn About Britain has launched a fundraising appeal to support the development of a set of lesson plans for secondary schools on the events at Cable Street and the changing face of antisemitism in the UK.

Founder of Learn About Britain, Joe Hayman, said:

"At Learn About Britain we don't shy away from the challenges the UK faces - we confront them. While antisemitism has changed over the last 90 years, it hasn't gone away. The lesson plans we develop will look at antisemitism then and now, and, in line with our commitment to turning learning into action, encourage students to reflect on their roles in countering it.

We want to commission historians to develop high-quality resources on Cable Street and the changing face of antisemitism, share them with schools and run a competition for students to demonstrate what they have learned. The total cost of developing the project will be £11,000 - a generous donor has already committed half of the project funds but we still need to raise £5,500 to make the project a reality. If you could help, please get in touch."
