Hidden Histories: Unheard Stories from Britain's Past

On 19 April 2024 at Sheffield University, Learn About Britain opened submissions for its new Hidden Histories project, a soon-to-be-launched repository of unheard stories from Britain’s past to be hosted on our website and accessible to secondary school students, new migrants to the UK and the wider public. The project aims to:

  • bring academic research into formal and informal education settings through resources which are accessible to students, people new to the UK and the wider public
  • illuminate parts of British history which do not get general attention
  • give voice to stories that have gone untold, but serve to help develop understanding of what Britain is today

We are welcoming research based on all elements of British history; with possible themes including (but not limited to): culture, religion, nations and regions, gender and sexuality, identity, the economy, life in Britain, war, empire and people who changed Britain.

We will welcome different methods of presentation for this project including, but not limited to, blogs, presentations, short films, picture essays. Alongside the stories we host, which will necessarily be relatively short and accessible, we would welcome links to deeper research/more information for those wishing to delve deeper.
